Religious Festivals – Festival of the Holy Trinity


Summer festivals are organized in a traditional atmosphere in Nestorio and provide unique entertainment and socializing opportunities. All festivities of this kind are directly associated with religious worship, since they are carried out in honor of the Saints. Despite the passing of time, they reflect the values ​​of tradition and identify the local culture.

One of the most important religious celebrations is the festival of the Holy Trinity.

It is an outdoor festival for the revival and preservation of the traditions of the region.

This popular event embraces local people, immigrants, as well as foreign visitors, providing quality entertainment, accompanied by traditional music and tasty dishes. Furthermore, the participation of the local and other dance groups contribute to maintaining local traditional customs.








HOLLY TRINITY CHAPEL

In “Kastro”, in a particular beautiful location with lovely views at an altitude of 1,000 m., stands the chapel of the Holy Trinity. It is a landscaped and beautiful cruciform temple with a dome, built in 1975.

Many people visit the small temple every year, where the outpouring of the Holy Spirit to the Apostles on the fiftieth day after the Resurrection of Christ is magnificently celebrated




TRADITIONAL MUSIC AND DANCE

The music and dance tradition of Nestorio is rich and interesting. Singing, dancing and the music that accompanies them are part of the social life of the region. They express all age groups, as they reflect the pain, sorrow and joy of people.

People with special love and an innate inclination towards music created with artistry many traditional bands, which accompanied religious festivals, marriage-engagement celebrations and public holidays.

The clarinet, violin, lute, tambourine and later on the trumpet, cornet, tabor, trombone, accordion, keyboards and the drum, in all possible combinations, give joy and excite people.

The dances and songs of Nestorio express bravery, joy, love, pride, emotions, experiences of everyday life, diaspora and the historical development of the region. The dances still danced until today in Nestorio are “Anastasia’s” Sirtos, a wedding dance, “Angelic daughter”, the Sirtos of love, “Berati”, a slow dance of diaspora, “Beratse”, a slow majestic dance of elders, “The hunter”, a fast erotic dance, “Antikristos or Tsigirlaga” and “Pasalimaniotikos”, which are quick and happy dances, as well as the “Nifiatikos” slow majestic wedding dance.
